Wasatch Reading Summit

What Is This Event About?

The Wasatch Reading Summit is a conference for education professionals and community members to share information on applying the Science of Reading in the classroom.

It is estimated that 1 in 5 students have a reading disability, and approximately 40% of students are below proficient reading level in Utah. Teachers can benefit from the professional learning and mentoring from experienced researchers and classroom teachers at this conference to find evidence-based instruction that will enhance their capability.

Lisa Klein, M. ED. “Weaving the Writing Rope Through Content Areas”

Dr. Kay Wijekumar “Transforming Reading for All Our Children.”

Christy Austin: Dyslexia 101 & the Science of Reading

Lindsay Kemeny (Classroom Teacher, Reading Horizons, Local Author) A class-wide reading intervention that works and 7 Mighty Moves

Jennifer Throndson (USBE): Designing an Effective Literacy Block

Amy Sandgren (Canyons SD): Using the Science of Reading in the MTSS system.

Stacy Hurst (SUU): Dialogic Reading

Kathy Tenney (CALT Instructor): Building Blocks for Spelling and Phonemic Awareness

Naomi Watkins & Krista Hotelling (USBE): Using Utah’s New P-12 ELA Standards to Support the Science of Reading

Ivy Beecher, Kaylee Miller, Michael Atkinson – Dyslexia: Dyslexia in schools and how I succeeded: Three Utah Seniors with dyslexia share their stories.

Ashley Lennox (Canyons SD): Math Jileen Mortensen, Isabelle Cahoon, Harmony Langford (teachers and literacy coaches)– SOR in the classroom presented by teachers/literacy coaches who are using it effectively

 

Lunch is included for all in-person attendees.
